Christmas Meets Nurturing Moment
(contains lyrics by Songwriters: Oscar Hammerstein II / Richard Rodgers)
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
There are a few of my favorite things
We have to start somewhere, why not start with joy?!
Not the giant or fantastic or even the miracle we so anxiously await in that baby’s birth,
But in the mundane, the every day, the little things that we see or notice for just a second longer than normal
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
And as we notice, pause..
Take a deep breath..
Let yourself really look, really feel, really hear, smell, see
Instead of having the details run together, smashed and blurry, wait
Let the scene clear, your eyes focus, your ears, nose, tongue linger
Enjoy it
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
So enjoy them.
Acknowledge and allow them and whatever the feel like to be felt and to run deep
Feel it in your skin, through your bones,
Let the feeling permeate and swell in your heart
Even if only for the moment
Because this moment.. you can keep.
Hold on to it, lock it tight in your body and your lived experience
It is part of you, part of our story
It belongs to us and we own it
It is ours to have, and to experience again
At our choosing, whenever we need
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad
